There’s some good news for Prescott area anglers. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is reporting for the first time in its history, Fain Lake in Prescott Valley will be stocked with brown trout this week. In addition, Lynx Lake in Prescott will receive this trout for the first time since 2005. The fish will average 8 inches in length. According to Matt Chmiel, Fisheries Program Manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Region 3 Office in Kingman, this is the result of surplus fish. Chmiel adds officials are excited to provide some additional opportunities to anglers who fish these popular lakes. An in-state fishing license costs $23.50 and trout stamps are $15.75. Those who are interested can find the fishing license that best suits their needs online at azgfd.gov.
The Prescott Unified School District Board has not made a decision yet on a closed campus at Prescott High School. The Board discussed this item during a retreat last month and once again during its voting session last night. Most of those in the audience who addressed the Board voiced support for a closed campus, meaning students would not be allowed to leave campus during the lunch hour. The Board also expressed support for a closed campus, but Superintendent David Smucker says if this issue moves forward, it won’t happen overnight.
The Board also discussed a possible bond or override election, forming committees and community involvement. Discussions are preliminary and during last month’s retreat, Chief Financial Officer Rene Raskin indicated officials don’t even have a number as to how much the bond or override would be. Smucker indicates what District officials do know is in the next 2 years, there are large dollar amounts that will need to be reduced in those budgets. Smucker explains communication is the key in this process.
District voters passed an 18.7 million dollar bond issue in November 2004.
