House fire in Mayer sends two to Maricopa County Burn Center.

Thursday night at just before 11:15 p.m., Mayer Fire crews responded to a reported house fire in the 15000 block of Red Rock in Cordes Lakes.  The first arriving unit, Battalion Chief, heard yells for help as he drove in the area of the house.  The Battalion Chief was able to enter the structure and remove 2 residents, one that was in a wheelchair, while a third resident exited on their own.

The fire was quickly controlled and contained to the bedroom where it started.  The first victim, an elderly woman in the wheelchair, was treated for burns to the face and respiratory system and taken to Cordes Lakes Park by Lifeline Ambulance, where she was transferred to a medical helicopter and flown to the Maricopa County Burn Center with what may be life threatening injuries.  The second victim, a 50 year old man was treated for burns on his hands, arms and right side and was also transported to a second helicopter by Lifeline ambulance and then flown to the Maricopa County Burn Center.  The third victim, a man in his 40’s, was treated for minor burns and transported to YRMC East by Lifeline Ambulance.  Two engines from Central Yavapai Fire came in to assist on the scene and to cover the Mayer Fire District while their units were tied up on the fire.

The fire is believed to have started from a resident falling asleep while smoking and on oxygen.
