Game Preview: Bradshaw Mountain Bears at Prescott Badgers

18 October 2013

The battle! The hype! The drama! The rivalry! It does not get any bigger than this! Locally anyway.

Tonight, two very good teams will battle it out for what could very well be the top spot in Division 3, Section 4 standings.

Bradshaw Mountain comes in at (4-0) in section, and (6-1) overall, winners of their last four.

Coach Jarod Woodruff's squad is led by junior quarterback Jarett Cain, who had 11 completions in 21 attempts, for 180 yards and a touchdown last week in the 37-3 win over Flagstaff. The downside was he threw three interceptions.

Running back Colton Audsley, a junior, is averaging nearly ten yards a carry with six touchdowns. He has also been known to throw the ball on occasion. The big back for the Bears is six foot, 225 pound, junior, Shane Sorrells, who had two touchdowns last week in the win over Flagstaff, and has five touchdowns in the last two games.

The Bears like to mix it up. They throw almost as much as they run the ball. Look for them to try and establish the running game before opening it up in the air. If they can succeed on the ground, then the Badgers may be in trouble.

Prescott is (3-1) in section and (5-2) overall, and have won three in a row by a combined 166-16.

Look for the Badgers to continue doing what they do best. That is run the football. Running back Kaine Bayze has been lights out the past three weeks and even tied a school record with five touchdowns last week in the manhandling of Coconino 59-2. Bayze is sitting at 1160 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season and is averaging over eleven yards a carry. Look for running back Chris Wright to get his share of the carries. The senior had a quiet 156 yards, in 14 carries last week, giving him 509 on the season.

Prescott Coach Cody Collett said, "I expect this to be a four quarter game." Even though his starters have been only playing a little over half a game the last three weeks, due to blowing out their opponents, he added that "Our conditioning program is right where we want it to be and that I see no problems with our starters competing for four quarters. We are healthy and ready to go." When asked if he had any rabbits to pull out of a hat, he replied, " I suppose both teams will have some wrinkles to show at some point during the game. We will see. Lets just leave it at that."

Bradshaw Mountain's only hope is what Flagstaff did to the Badgers last month, and that was to slow down, if not stop, the run.

Expect a pack stadium tonight with temperatures ranging from the mid 50's at kickoff to the upper 40's by games end. The ticket booths will open at 5:00pm, and kickoff will be at 7:00pm.
