Bill's Newscast: Coffee, Flu Shots and Basketball

05 October 2016

Coffee, flu and basketball is on the agenda

Coffee with a Cop

Prescott Valley residents can meet with police officers to discuss community issues over a free cup of coffee.  The Prescott Valley Police Department has been holding Coffee with a Cop sessions, which allow members of the public to talk informally with officers.  Now the program has received national recognition.  These events started with the Hawthorne, California Police Department 5 years ago in response to tensions between the police and community.  Today more than 2,000 law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve participate in this program.  Tomorrow morning at 8, Prescott Valley Police officers and community members will come together once again at the Back Burner Family Restaurant, located on Long Mesa Drive. Police Chief Bryan Jarrell says there are no speeches and no agenda, just conversation.

Play by Play broadcaster for the NAZ Suns

The Northern Arizona Suns have their first play by play broadcaster in its team history.  Jon Bloom comes to the Phoenix Suns’ developmental team after spending 9 seasons as radio host, public address announcer and play by play broadcaster for the Arizona Cardinals.  He is entering his 10th year as the Phoenix Suns’ postgame radio host.  Bloom has also been involved in golf broadcasting for nearly 20 years and continues to work for CBS Sports’ coverage of the Masters and PGA Championship, among other events.  He will call his first game when the Northern Arizona Suns tip off the 2016-17 season against the Iowa Energy on Saturday, November 12th at the Prescott Valley Event Center.

Get your flu shot

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to get your flu shot.  Flu season is here, and Yavapai County Community Health Services is hosting free flu shot clinics throughout Yavapai County this month. Yavapai County Community Health Services spokesman David McAtee says the flu season is starting earlier than usual. If you can’t make it to any of the flu shot clinics, call 583-1000 to make an appointment at either the Commerce Drive location in Prescott, the Windsong Drive location in Prescott Valley or the South 6th Street location in Cottonwood.
