Sundogs Win In Shootout, 2-1

18 November 2012

Arizona Picks Up Two Points

Prescott Valley, AZ – Former Thunder netminder Adam Russo returns to Wichita serving up a 2-1 win over his former team and snapped the Sundogs' three game skid at the Intrust Bank Arena on Saturday night.

Derek LeBlanc scored the game winning goal in a six-round shootout and Arizona picked up two points (6-4-4) putting them in second place along with the Bloomington Blaze. Mickael Bedard also netted a goal in the shootout.

The Thunder's Neil Trimm scored first tonight giving Wichita the early lead. LeBlanc's wrister was deflected by Kevin Regan who was unable to cover up the puck forcing a scramble in front of the net until Wichita was able to force it down the ice. Jason Morgan looking for control of the puck was on the receiving end of a hard hit by Aaron Boogaard sending Morgan to the ice. Wichita picked up two power plays in the first 20 minutes, their second coming with just 43 seconds left in the first after Kyle Hood was called for hooking, giving Wichita the man advantage heading into the second period.

Looking to even up the game Arizona created a three-on-one straight away but the puck rebounded off the right wing and went just wide of the net. With just under nine minutes left, in the second period Jake Hauswirth put Arizona on the scoreboard when he let off an outside shot catching the net and tying up the game.

Neither team was able to break the tie in the third period sending the Sundogs into overtime for the second game in a row and fourth time of the season. Arizona had been 0-3 in the shootout but came out on top tonight with a big win. Wichita outshot Arizona tonight 28-22. Russo made 27 saves while Regan made 20. Arizona was 0-2 on the power play and Wichita was 0-5. The Sundogs return home after their eight day road trip to host the Allen Americans at Tim's Toyota Center Thanksgiving week.
