It’s a win!

The Arizona Diamondbacks found an unlikely way to win in the ninth which proved exciting  for the fans and local team alike, in a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

The D-Backs jumped on Angels starter Felix Pena in the bottom of the first. David Peralta hit an opposite field home run for a quick 2-0 lead.

The Angels tied the game in the third as Yavapai College and ASU alum Kole Calhoun doubled and scored, on a singłe to left by David Fletcher. Andrelton Simmons singled in Fletcher to tie the game.

Arizona got the two runs back in the bottom of the inning as David Peralta and Steven Souza Jr. provided RBI singles.

Patrick Corbin started the game and went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out nine, and allowing two walks, in picking up his 11th win of the season.

Yoshihisa Hirano pitched the seventh inning, giving up a solo home run to pinch hitter Jefrey Marte, prompting manager Torey Lovullo to make a pitching change to Andrew Chafin. Kole Calhoun picked up his second hit if the night, when he hit a shot off the leg of Chafin, rolling into foul territory. Archie Bradley replaced Chafin, and gave up a game tying triple to Fletcher, who sliced a lined drive down the right field line.

Tied 4-4 in the bottom the ninth, Jon Jay was hit by a pitch, and scored following a bunt and throwing error by pitcher Cam Bedrosian, as the D-Backs beat the Angels 5-4. After Jay reached first, John Ryan Murphy beat out a bunt, then AJ Pollock bunted on his own. " AJ and I hhad a visible communication as he was walking up to the plate, and he is a guy that will do whatever it takes to win, and that is what he did."

Manager Torey Lovullo said in his post game comments, "To win that game that way, I will take that anytime. We did what we had to do to win." 

Felix Pena went six innings for Los Angeles, allowing four runs, seven hits. He struck out 12 D-Backs.

Brad Boxberger (2-4), picked up the win by tossing the ninth inning. Cam Bedrosian (5-3), took the loss.

The final game of the two game series is tonight at 6:40pm, with Clay Bucholz (6-2) 2.47 ERA, facing Angels Odrisamer Despaigne (2-1) 6.29 ERA.
